Het Nederlands Genootschap van Bedrijfsjuristen is doorgaans niet het toneel van hoog oplopende conflicten, althans: niet zichtbaar, hoe anders is dat in Canada. Daar heeft de Canadian Bar Association het hele bestuur van de Candese evenknie van het NGB, de Canadian Corporate Counsel Association, op straat geknikkerd. Ook de directeur kon inpakken. Aanleiding: een al 26 maanden slepend conflict over de wijze van financiering van de CCCA.
Over de precieze aard van het conflict zijn geen mededelingen gedaan. In een verklaring stelt de Canadian Bar Association over een mislukte mediation: “We regret that the mediation involving the CBA and CCCA on January 15 and 16 was terminated because an impasse was reached which, as the mediator confirmed, could not be resolved by continuing the mediation.”
Ook de bestuurders van de CCCA gaven een verklaring uit: “We are extremely disappointed by CBA’s drastic move. However, we continue to be fully committed to the ideal of providing a national forum and voice for Canada’s in-house counsel, facilitating their access to resources, contacts and ideas critical to their professional development and success. The current situation has given rise to an opportunity to begin a new dialogue on how to create an organization that will allow us to realize our values and commitment to the in-house counsel community more effectively and efficiently.”
De CCCA bestaat sinds 1988 en heft meer dan 10.000 leden uit de private en publieke sector.
