Royal Dutch Shell overweegt – in navolging van verschillende globale advocatenkantoren – een juridisch backoffice te openen in een lagelonenland. Dat meldt Bloomberg. Het bedrijf doet op dit moment onderzoek naar locaties en de gewenste omvang van de operatie. Er zouden zowel advocaten als andere juristen moeten gaan werken.
Juridisch directeur Donny Ching heeft nog geen concrete doelen aan de operatie verbonden. ‘When you want a projects team to do a bit of blue sky thinking you don’t want to put too many constraints on them including targets or things like that… There would be a mix of work, because we have standardized a lot of our contracts now, it is much easier for us to train people in off-shore centers to deal with and work with the commercial folks in the business.’
Volgens Shell is de stap ook een gevolg van de lage olieprijzen, en de strategie om meer ‘sustainable en resilient’ te worden. ‘Shell’s legal team is examining opportunities to offshore some specific parts of our work where is makes sense to consolidate services, increase efficiencies and reduce costs.’
